acer aspire one fan module (acerhdf) not working with kernel 3.7.5-1

As in title. Module is loaded fine with correct parameters, but fan is running full time. $sensors reports that temperature is far below levels where fan should kick in. If I boot into linux-lts it works fine.

Not desperate, I can wait for next kernel release and see if that corrects it. I'm just writing to report it really, unless anyone has a fix.

I also have an Acer machine.  An X1920.  It may be fruitful to check your computer's BIOS settings.  In mine there is an option for the hardware itself to monitor the temperature and adjust the fans as needed.  No software control needed.  That is how I have mine setup.

Re: acer aspire one fan module (acerhdf) not working with kernel 3.7.5-1

Running the old Acer Aspire One (AOA150) and having the same problem. Just upgraded my system after a long while without any problems except the fan's running continuously despite temperatures being well below threshold.

The kernel version here's 3.7.9 now with no change, apparently. I've tweaked the module options and reloaded it many times without effect. I wonder if this is some minor kernel regression back to the days when fan control for these Acers didn't work well. Searches on the net only came up with old references to the issue. This being the only new one.

I'd be very curious to know of any updates on this. I still use this old netbook regularly in the field for it's long battery life. Not so long anymore since the fans whining away constantly, not to mention annoying.

Same here.
I downgraded to the 3.6.11 kernel, and acerhdf is working again.
But I hope it will be fixed soon.

Re: acer aspire one fan module (acerhdf) not working with kernel 3.7.5-1

I seem to have fixed it. When installing linux-lts as a temp workaround I decided to add acpi_osi=Linux to grub's command line. Installed hdparm cause laptop-mode tools was complaining about it. Also updated plymouth-git with yaourt and rebuilt the initrd images. Booted into lts kernel and everything worked fine then re-booted into core and, low and behold the fan's working properly as well. Not sure  which one of these did it though.

*Edit*   Spoke too soon. Once the fan turns on it doesn't turn off again.

There is an updated version of acerhdf in AUR that fixes this issue. It's been patched with a "workaround." Just installed it and works fine now.
