I know, that on Gentoo Openoffice can be compiled from source in order to get 3 benefits:
- native language support in all Menus
- KDE integration (via kde USE-Flag)
- slight gain in speed
So I'm wondering if it is possible to get something looking simliar to this by building it through the ABS - Package?

Send us the PKGBUILD and we would be propably really happy.
This wish comes often, but noone ever sent us a fully working PKGBUILD, and if you do some efforts in this direction, remember that the langpacks must be abailable.

Well, as I didn't write ANY PKGBUILD (nor Gentoo ebuild) before, I don't think that partictirualaly I will be the one to first succed in writing one for OPENOFFICE!
Anyway .. for KDE integration there seems to be no way but hacking ... if you read the Gentoo-Ebuild you'll see: it's not the standard OO-sources that are used here.
Perhaps someone can make something from it:

Anyone of the more skilled PKGBUILD writers could take a look at this?
It would be really nice to have it (even by secreficing some time for the compile ) Additionally I belive that the freetype problem (OOo has it's own freetype lbirary compiled statically in without the bytecode interpreter) could be solved by recompiling.
