Re: AL screenshots (Archival, see other screenshots thread)

real transparency? linux is not capable of that and i don't see it exemplified in your screenshots (which are nice btw). where your transparent windows overlap you do not see the underlying window just your background "real" transparency would show what ever is under the window be it another window or the desktop itself (or the icons on it).

Re: AL screenshots (Archival, see other screenshots thread)

mmm....but as far as I know, freedesktop's xfree has REAL transparency support.

Re: AL screenshots (Archival, see other screenshots thread)

Why not just use Keith's Xserver screenshots?

Mmmm... Alpha-blending...

err... BTW: anyone have a working script to compile this? I wrote one awhile back, but I forgot all the weird exports it needed to make it play nice with autoconf.

Yea, they're pretty.  No hardware acceleration yet, though.

I built it on Arch with the provided build script.

Re: AL screenshots (Archival, see other screenshots thread)

OK, I finally can't resist anymore ;-) ... my opinion on screenshots and OS's/distributions : they only demonstrate the desktop environment/window manager/wallpaper - but not the OS. (If I'd show you screenshots of my FreeBSD box, my Arch box and my Mandrake Laptop - they all look almost identical ... hey, I even installed the blackbox-style shell on Win98 and it also looks like my Unix desktops at first glance ...).

Something useful in a screen shot would be the distribution tools. *Maybe* I will make one after I ran pacman -Syu in an xterm/aterm or after I did a makepkg. Now these are things that make the Distro unique - and it shows the simplicity of AL. Or a screenshot with rc.conf opened ... or similar things.

Your fluxbox looks very nice. How did you make it.... transparent, theme, and icons?
(I have sent one private message to Shemeta).
