Hello, All,

As a recent Arch transfer, I would like to say that I really appreciate the amount of work that you guys do. I'm pretty new to Linux in general and often times I have to search using incomplete or incorrect terms. Luckily, for most of my queries, I find a quick answer. I'm really digging the dwm and re-learning the CLI. I'm about 80% complete with getting my laptop to where it needs to be. I look forward to the last 15%.

Greetings all!

I'm just another random Swedish Linux newbie. Gave Linux a few tries the past 13 years or so, but went back to Windows within days each time due to gaming. Now that I barely play any games at all, I gave it another shot a four months ago. Started out, just like many others, with some Ubuntu distributions, but soon enough I got bored with all the crap I didn't ask for when installing, so I went on looking and came across Arch Linux. Didn't make it through the installation the first time and stumbled across Archbang which gave me a chance to getting familiar enough with Linux and the Arch environment to make it through the real deal a month back or so, even with my initially nearly non-existent knowledge of anything linuxrelated. I haven't looked back since!

So, here I am, just wishing to express my gratitude to everyone who, in one way or another, has made Arch Linux - and everything around it - to what it is!

Hi,

First let me thank thank all of you for wonderful documentation. I could make my old thinkpad up and running Arch with XFCE with in three days of free time. It was only possible because of wiki, some other installation tutorials and forum posts. I could easily find solutions with a simple search like wifi, multimedia keys, trackpad, thinkpad etc.
I enjoyed every minute I spent on Arch till now for the learning involved and pleased with the performance and simplicity of Arch.

Heyho!

Thanks for the great Wiki and the great distribution. I'm from the ubuntu side and was one who gave up ubuntu since 12.04. I'm really happy with archlinux and want to give something in the near future back (some packages for the aur I'm working on).

Hello everyone,

After a few years into the whole Free Software thing and looking for a distro that could give me almost total control of what I am doing I landed here a few months ago. What I like about Arch Linux is the KISS principle, the fantastic Wiki and the AUR, in which I can find almost anything. Now I think I can collaborate to make it even better so that's why I am here.

I am linux user for a decade, and since 2008 I've replaced Windows entirely. I've tried many distros, such as Ubuntu, Suse and Fedora. Recently I ditched Gentoo and moved over to Arch. I was tired of all the compiling...

already full of wonder and delight, but no joy as of yet getting this to install on vmware, but maybe the forums will help now that i got past the question!

also, side note...

the question is impossible to answer from a ubuntu live disc and took two tries with the same answer from a fuduntu install before it was recognized as correct!

made me think i would never get in for help.

Hello all. I've been using Arch for about a month now. I also run crunchbang (somewhat) and debian!mint, but Arch is definitely my favorite and most used distro out of them all.

hello everyone I'm kinda of distro hopper now i want to settle down i thought first of gentoo because of its wiki and documentation but on my machine the compiling time were too long.
Now that I have a new machine I'm thinking of give a try to Arch.
Hope to choose the distro that will stay with me for a long long time

Hello everyone, I'm very new to archlinux. I decided to give archlinux because of the amount of control an archlinux user has. I'm not very good with linux; having used it off and on for a couple years, mostly stopping because I couldn't play games that I wanted to. I'm coming from Linux Mint 13/14, where things seemed alright. I want to build a computer specifically for gaming and some development. So, having said that I'm off to find some stuff on graphics drivers, steam, and playonlinux.

P.S. I love the "date -u +%V$(uname)|sha256sum|sed 's/\W//g'" requirement for a new user account; that's awesome!

hi still new to arch, even though i installed it 10 times in the last 48 hours until i got it just right! XD

i was wondering what DE that is in all the screen shots and if anyone knew how to get enlightenment to load itself, the information in the wiki either did not work for me or i did not work for it.

also i am very open to know your favorite DE as i am open to trying new things (obviously, since i installed arch) and like to theme a bit.

i am currently running gnome as it was used in the lifehacker article and it had a way to auto start it and enlightenment_start did not work unless i removed xorg gui packages.

i am very comfortable with the gnome gui and utilities, but i do not like how gnome 3 hides every tool it has from me and have wanted to try something else out, something other than xfce and lxde, i have tried them on various distros and enlightenment a few years ago, but decided to give it another go.

also recommended tools and utilities for anything a newbie would need to know, maybe a utilitie that teaches me as i go, like useful tips?

this is my first intermediate linux and i am proud to be a arch(er).

forgot to add, i like to configure grub too, i think i already know that one though.

this should not have been moved from general discussion, but i'll repost and reword it and see if it sticks, if i'm not feeling lazy later.

Yes I did follow it in conjunction with the beginners and installation wiki, the screenshots I am referring to are reffered to as dwm, which I found via google, on my mobile so I cannot link at the moment.

Same as a lot here, it seems : I've been reading and picking ideas and answers for a while now. Time to emerge from shadows :-))
I'm from France and have been trying Arch for a few months after sticking with Debian, while overall I've been using GNU/Linux for ~1 year.
