chromium 25 dependencies missing icu

running "pacman -S chromium" to upgrade chromium resulted in:

Targets (4): graphite-1:1.2.1-1  harfbuzz-0.9.9-3  ttf-dejavu-2.33-4  chromium-25.0.1364.160-1

however when running chromium after this (successful) update I got:

$ chromium
/usr/lib/chromium/chromium: error while loading shared libraries: libicule.so.50: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

What worked for me was to run "pacman -S icu".  This installed icu-50.1.2-1 which allowed chromium 25 to run properly.

Re: chromium 25 dependencies missing icu

icu is already a dependency of harfbuzz, something went wrong with your update if it wasn't installed

The only supported upgrade path is -Syu, and posts like this are exactly the reason why.

Perhaps pacman could mention this:

# pacman -S chromium
chromium is already installed, use pacman -Syu to upgrage

This thread is about Chromium 24.  I post this from Chromium 48.

Closing.
