[SOLVED] Artifacts after installation of KDE 4.10 (ati legacy drivers)

Hello folks. So my problem is since i installed kde 4.10 when i open firefox or even my email i see some artifacts on screen for about 1/2 seconds.
Worse is when i execute a 3D application that uses openGL i can't see a thing xD.  Already reinstalled kde and my legacy drivers but at no vail. The only solution i found was disabling effects or change opengl to Xrender (which puts everything a lot slow) on Kwin but i was looking for a solution that would let me have the effects active.
My graphics card is a ati hd 5145 (hd 4000 series overclocked). If someone can help me with this issue it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance ^^

Re: [SOLVED] Artifacts after installation of KDE 4.10 (ati legacy drivers)

I discover something interesting..in my OpenGL information i have:

3D accelerator: unknown

Driver:
Vendor : ATI Technologies
Renderer: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series
Kernel module: unknown

I don't remmenber seeing 3D accelerator : unknown neither kernel module..can this have something to do with my problem?

Have you tried to disable kwin's direct rendering?
I dunno how it's working for 4.10, maybe adding this line:

export KWIN_DIRECT_GL=0

into /etc/profile will work?

Tryed that..didn't change anything.
The only way i can make games or 3D software work without flickering it's by deactivate Kwin effects, disabling OpenGL rendering or switching to Xrender (this last one makes the OS very slow).. I was looking for a solution that don't need me to deactivate the effects (alt+shift+F12) every time i wanted to play a game or run 3D software..if that exists xD. I switch to gnome and all was working fine, games were running fine...but i still saw some artifacts in firefox (little things like some black line above the buttons)..so my guess it is OpenGL or legacy drivers issue (i think xD).

ok, for gnome3:

export CLUTTER_VBLANK=none

it should be something with direct rendering, it was not fixed in legacy

Unfortunately didn't change anything...by the way if I suspend my laptop while I'm using gnome when i turn it back on i can't see anything only flickering. Also I'm noticing my laptop becoming a lot slower and unstable (crashes on firefox) in both gnome and KDE

Re: [SOLVED] Artifacts after installation of KDE 4.10 (ati legacy drivers)

By the way when I try to install a update like gnome-terminal i receive this:

gconftool-2:2719): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: No protocol specified
Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.

(5/7) Updating gnome-terminal [############################] 100%

(gconftool-2:2727): GConf-WARNING **: Client failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon:
/usr/bin/dbus-launch terminated abnormally with the following error: No protocol specified
Autolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.

Dunno if has anything to do with my problem...think so xD

Solve it by reinstalling everything -.-"

Going to give it a try tomorrow with the legacy drivers to see if happens the same thing again.
