[SOLVED] "Can't find a SQUASFS superblock on sda3"

Hey,

sorry but I've already searched the forums! There are similar problems but none fits mine.

I've just been trying to install Arch on my new Samsung Ultrabook. After I've partitioned my HDD with cfdisk I tried mounting the root partition by entering: mount /dev/sda3 /mnt. But I get this error:

[ 632.639059] SQUASHFS error: Cant' find a SQUASHFS superblock on sda3
[ 632.639316] EXT4-fs (sda3): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem
[ 632.640253] EXT4-fs (sda3): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem
[ 632.642316] EXT4-fs (sda3): VFS: Can't find ext4 filesystem

After I created the partition table with GParted Live-CD, when I installed Windows 7 there was a partition of ~20GB at the end of the table which I deleted. Just in case this could be related to the error! But I don't think so...

Any ideas?

Cheers

No wonder the mounting failed, you did not create the filesystem. Read the Beginner's Guide.

Okay I guess you mean the mkfs command! This is new to me. During my previous installations cfdsik created the filesystems by itself. At least i didn't have enter this command.

Thanks!

It didn't. AIF called the mkfs during partitioning.

Okay, good to know! And is the 20GB partition i was talking about by any chance the UEFI partition?

20GB is too much for an UEFI Partition. Does your hardware even run UEFI?

Re: [SOLVED] "Can't find a SQUASFS superblock on sda3"

When I bought the notebook there was Windows 8 installed it took me about an hour to figure out how to get to the BIOS menu. There is an option there where you're able to turn on UEFI, CS MOS or both.
I've never got in touch with this UEFI stuff before, so I can't really say what my hardware does or doesn't. I was just wondering if this partition could have been important, but since everything is running for now, I think not.
I created a MBR partition table to guard against future problems.

Well, the proof that you aren't running UEFI is that your notebook still works wink
It was probably a Windows Recovery Partition, fairly common and useless.
