I started up this page, but it needs serious help with formatting and content.

maybe it could be linked to the PKGBUILD wiki page as well as used in the class, unless it should be merged... (I seriously don't know what I am doing) *pokes package maintainers with a sharp stick*

That logo is awesome! nice work!
I'm finally all moved to my new place, but having computer issues. I'm hoping to get everything together and start working on projects again by the end of the month. >< But I'm super excited about Arch Classroom. If anyone wants to make other class stuff, like bash or programing or creating bug reports, feel free

I guess that book improved a lot since the second edition that I own
I had hoped that it would be as good a reference for C++ as was K&R for C. It is not
Edit: Sorry, I had meant to post this to your other thread. No matter...

Thanks, if you want it in .svg form directly from Inkscape just tell me where to send it.

Thanks Grinch, could you send it to meskarune @ gmail.com?
duster: I'll be happy to collaborate with you. Feel free to add your C++ stuff on the wiki and I'll try and edit what you have. I think once all the pacman updates are finished, we could get some people to edit the package maintaining class. We need to get some PKGBUILD examples with comments and get the lesson plan fleshed out.
I just got a new computer, and still unpacking at my new place. Any more class ideas would be awesome too! I think we got a bug reporting one that needs to get worked on.

This sounds like a great project, particularly for users like myself that do consult the wiki for problem solving but probably still have sizable knowledge gaps as far as fundamentals. I've been a "motivated novice" for a little over a year and feel that a guided flow of information such as proposed could really help in growing as a user.
Another big benefit I imagine these classes could provide is, again, for users like myself that are too intimidated by the community to really participate. As it stands, my only contribution is done by staying out of the way but I would love to be confident enough to eventually give a little back.

Just create an Arch wiki account, login and start editing like any other wiki. This page might be of help to you:

And now we have planned our first actual class: A Beginners Guide to Package Maintaining.
This will be taught by gtmanfred and myself Sunday, March 31st at 16:00UTC in the #archlinux-classroom channel. There is already an Arch Wiki page up about this class listing the requirements and lesson plans. This class will be broken into separate lessons, the first being a simple introduction with guided practice and explanations. We will be covering more advanced topics later on. Even if you are not new to package maintenance, we would like to see you there for support and just in case when we get things wrong you can correct us. We will also be covering the new functions and uses of pacman 4.1, currently in the rc stage, particularly its use with version control sources and development packages in the later lessons.
There will be a pdf file released when the class begins so that you can follow along. We will be releasing an info document too, for those of you that do not use X but still want to follow along.
Thank you, and we hope to see you there!
If you have any questions about the requirements or prerequisites, then please ask on the IRC channel. We will be glad to clear things up.

We'll be releasing documents outlining almost everything we talk about. You can grab one of those after the class if you want.
Good luck with it!
Thanks!

Oh, very nice, great topic. I'll make a note about the date and will try to attend. Thanks!

Yes! That'll be great. Hopefully the first lesson doesn't have too much 4.1 specific stuff that we'll be going over. (We do go over the new functions, but don't use them.)

Thank you very much. I'll send you a link to the doc on the pacman channel.

Hey KaiSforza and Gtmanfred,
I will be planning to attend and also a few or so members from my local LUG.
So far, I have one person. I'll query you in IRC if that number changes.
So yeah, this should be fun.
