GTK3 applications look weird in Xfce

I'm an Xfce user. As I understand it, I should be able to choose a theme with both gtk2 and gtk3 versions from the appearance tab and have both types of applications respect it. However, my gtk3 applications still look broken (though I can see the widgets change when I change theme). So something still isn't right...

Here's pavucontrol as an example.

Oh, it's this topic again.

Chance are, the gtk3 theme you have is not designed for the current release (e.g. it's for gtk3 v3.4, not gtk3 v3.6). You'll need to find an up-to-date theme that works with both gtk2 and gtk3 (and pray the GNOME devs don't break third-party themes with the next release), or recompile your gtk3 apps against gtk2 instead of gtk3, and have them use the gtk2 theme. There's a number of *-gtk2 packages in the AUR, like pavucontrol: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/pavucontrol-gtk2/

Making lemonade from lemons since 2015.

If that were the case wouldn't all of GNOME look bad for its users since, as you can see in the sreenshot, the theme I used to test with was Adwaita?

Re: GTK3 applications look weird in Xfce

My bad, I didn't actually check what theme you were using; Adwaita should be fine for both, so try following the suggestions on the wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GTK%2B#GTK.2B_3.x

Re: GTK3 applications look weird in Xfce

Hm. Problem was gone after a full reboot. I'm used to that being a Windows solution -- not Linux. Weird.
