[SOLVED]No wireless - BCM4313

I'm having problems having my wireless card to work.

I had the brcmsmac module but it hangs and it doesn't work so well, so i tried the propietary broadcom-wl. 

$ iwconfig 
wlp7s0    IEEE 802.11abg  ESSID:off/any  
          Mode:Managed  Access Point: Not-Associated   Tx-Power=200 dBm   
          Retry  long limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          
lo        no wireless extensions.

enp3s0    no wireless extensions.

I'm using wicd.

so what broadcom wifi card do you have exactly? I know that it says BCM4313 in the subject, but could you humor me and run 

lspci | grep -i net | grep Broadcom  | grep -P "[B][C][M][0-9]*"

and post the results, please?  smile

That look encouraging.  I see several access points.  That tells me your card is working.  I assume you are trying to connect to Bezeq-N_0f3491 since that is by far the closest signal.

That is using WPA, (maybe WPA2), so you need wpa_supplicant to be installed.
So, back to wicd.  What troubles are you having?

I opened it (GUI) and it keeps saying "No wireless networks found".

I am not in front of a machine that uses wireless at the moment, so I cannot walk through the steps.  In the wicd control panel, poke around for a setup or configuration dialog.  Make sure (if there is an option) to tell it to use wlp7s0   

Also, make use that NetworkManager and netcfg are not running.

Ah, there is the rub...

I am not in front of a machine with wicd, nor will I be for hours.  I can ssh into my box, but I cannot (well, actually I am not willing) to tunnel X.  I am not even sure there is a configuration dialog, just play around with the wicd-gtk GUI and see if you can find one.

If you are still having troubles, I can play with it when I get home (about 8 hours from now).

# nano -w /etc/wicd/

                    wireless_interface = wlp7s0

# systemctl restart wicd

Btw, the open source drivers didn't work like this one. My signal strength was 70% (and i'm next to the router) and it didn't show up the rest of the networks.

Just to wrap this up for any other readers,  The dialog is called, "Preferences".  To access it, look at the row of buttons at the top of the GUI.  To the right of the "Refresh" button, there is a triangle that points downwards.  Clicking on that exposes a drop down menu which includes the item that launches the Preferences dialog.
