I'm trying to install Arch on a very old PC using the 2013-03-01 ISO image. The PC atapi cdrom device is an ancient Waitec Shuttle, currently set as primary master. At boot, I get this message: "Booting from ATAPI cdrom: no emulation", then some idolinux output comes to the screen saying: "No command specified for isolinux", and finally I'm left with a "boot: " prompt.
The hardware has been capable to boot from an older Arch ISO cd some months ago, so I'm wondering whether this issue is due to a recent hardware fault or to some new features of 2013-03-01 ISO which are not compatible with my old device. Anyone has some idea? Thanks
Edit: I forgot to mention that the cd I use has been correctly created, since I can boot with it my newer laptop.

The usual suspect in these situation in the CD-ROM. Can't you try a USB boot?

Sadly, no. My PC from stone age 2001 A.D. barely have USB connectors, bios does not support at all boot from USB.
I found an interesting thing: at the "boot: " prompt I tried this command:
boot: boot/i686/vmlinuz
It starts to load the kernel, but it stucks after few seconds. So I think that cdrom is able to read the cd but in some way it cannot execute the isolinux commands...

Did you try the old install images like the last month version of Arch or different distro CD?

I'm downloading 2011-10 image, the older one I've been able to retrieve. I'll give it a try and post back.

2011-10 is too old I guess, even if it downloads you most likely wont be able to move to the latest considering the changes that happened in Arch in 2012.
Archboot images are bit old. But the last month I tried, it worked without major problems when updating to the latest.

Sorry, I meant 2012-10, my fault. There also has been a package update for archboot to 2013.03-1 just some minutes ago...

The arcboot package gets updated once in a while, but doesn't necessarily mean a CD is coming all the time.

I tried various ISOs back to 2012.06 and no one worked. At this point I strongly suspect a hardware fault of the motherbord, since also the HDD on that pc fails on boot after loading grub... Anyway, thanks hadrons123 for the support!

Its not over yet, there is still some hope. if you are interested ....
You can remove the HDD from the PC and install arch in that HDD by connecting to a different PC or buy/use a different CD-ROM replacing the old CD-ROM.

hadrons, you are right indeed: it was not over. I found the culprit: the pATA cable. With a different flat cable the pc boots without any problem. Thanks again!!
