Use DRI with 8mb videomemory

Heey everybody, got a question about x.org . I have a savage IX 8mb agp graphics card. I compiled the newest drivers posible for x.org with include DRI support. But i don't get DRI working. Here is why:

(II) SAVAGE(0): 11382 kB of Videoram needed for 3D; 8192 kB of Videoram available
(EE) SAVAGE(0): Insufficient Videoram available for 3D -- Try a lower color depth or smaller desktop. For integrated savages try increasing the videoram in the BIOS.
(EE) SAVAGE(0): DRI isn't enabled

I already tried lower depths or resolutions but the minimum ram needed was something about 9mb. I also tried to add

"VideoRam" 11382

but this gives some nasty graphics
Has anybody an idea how to get tis working? Can you force X to use DRI?

Re: Use DRI with 8mb videomemory

It's probably not working because the current DRI CVS version is apparently incompatible with XOrg 6.8.2. Use the common-20050707 and savage-20050718 snapshots from here.

Alternatively, you can try installing XOrg 6.9 RC2 with ABS, and use the current "common" and "savage" snapshots from dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots. This might give better performance, IIRC.

I installed the snapshots common-20050707 and savage-20050718.

Re: Use DRI with 8mb videomemory

u have to set the screen resolution lower than 1024x768 to make it works...if u need to use higher solution u must have more than 8mb physical video rams....

Eh? 8 MB should be more than enough for higher resolutions... IIRC it's enough for 1600x1200, and then some.

And if you run out of physical video RAM... that's what the AGP Aperture setting is for!
