systemd boot time error: failed to start Apply Kernel Variables

I am getting this error from systemd at boot up:  failed to start Apply Kernel Variables
I googled and checked some site, e.g.:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/s … 01210.html
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/i … 83678.html
But cannot find the solution to this.
I tried the command: sudo systemctl status systemd-sysctl.service
The output was:

systemd-sysctl.service - Apply Kernel Variables
      Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/systemd-sysctl.service; static)
      Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sat, 2012-11-17 09:16:21 UTC; 2min 5s ago
        Docs: man:systemd-sysctl.service(8)
              man:sysctl.d(5)
     Process: 120 ExecStart=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd-sysctl (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
      CGroup: name=systemd:/system/systemd-sysctl.service

Warning: Journal has been rotated since unit was started. Log output is incomplete or unavailable.

I am running Arch linux with LXDE and updating it regularly. The error not coming on another computer which also has similar setup.

Thanks for your help.

The logical thing to do would be to look at your sysctl.d/*.conf files....

Re: systemd boot time error: failed to start Apply Kernel Variables

The /etc/sysctl.d/ folder does not contain any files on my system.

[abcd@myhost sysctl.d]$ pwd
/etc/sysctl.d
[abcd@myhost sysctl.d]$ ls
[abcd@myhost sysctl.d]$
[abcd@myhost sysctl.d]$

I found that this error comes when /etc/sysctl.conf file has following entries:

vm.swappiness=10
vm.vfs_cache_pressure=75

The error disappears when these entries are removed.

I have exactly the same error, but without your entries in the sysctl.conf. Help would be very useful.
