I just can't make my Canon BJC 4300 LPT printer work under linux. It used to run well when i had SuSE installed and it actually goes like a charm under Windoze, so it's no hardware problem...
I followed everything posted in the CUPS wiki. I guess linux is not detecting my LPT port, cos hwd doesn't show it when asked (¿maybe it shouldn't??).
I just don't know what else to do, i think i'm not doing something very stupid, like running some requiered module or daemon, i don't know...
I would appreciate very very much some help with this.
Ah! I'm running a PC Chip's M825LU motherboard, maybe that would be useful...

If you run "lsmod", do you find parport, parport_pc and lp loaded?

No problem.
Have you updated recently? topwa has been working hard on a new hdwdetect script that might pick this stuff up for you automatically.
Glad to help!

yes if you run latest initscripts with MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes" in rc.conf it should be detected and load the modules for you

Wow!! This app hwdetect rocks!! It's great, it loads my modules much faster than using the hwd deamon. It also recognizes parport and usbserial, which hwd didn't. I think it's as fast as putting every module in the MODULE line, I guess.
I also put @ before every daemon, and now my system loads in 32 seconds, Xfce inluded!
Thanks a lot, you're doing a great great job tpowa.
