Hi,
So I've had the same issue, and looking at wiki and google I stumbled onto this thread. Adding the xorg113 server to my pacman.conf indeed worked, but I have a few questions:
1) Once the catalyst drivers are updated and compatible with Xorg 1.14, how will I know ? Do I have to keep checking somewhere, or will there be a message on a catalyst upgrade saying something about the compatibility ?
2) It looks a lot like a partial upgrade holding the whole of Xorg, is there any chance of a package breaking because of this ?
I'm quite new to having an ATI card on my linux system, and so far I'm sort of regretting not sticking with nVidia, which seems to have much better compatibility and tools...

threads like this make me think otherwise : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=160217
Back on topic :
reading /subscribing to this forum thread https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57084 would be a good idea.
P.S. personally i use the opensource radeon driver with good results (HD 4890) , but for newer cards that driver may still be lacking.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky

With HD 5400 series, the thing keeping me away from the open source driver is power management... The gpu temperature gets very high and battery lasts less than half the time with the proprietary driver..

Yeah, HD7870 here, so the opensource drivers are kind of a no-no for me yet.
Thanks for the tip about the thread, I'll subscribe and check from time to time, but I guess the best would be to look out for upgrade to catalyst then ![]()

I found 3 days ago that catalyst-test (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/catalyst-test/) has been supporting XServer 1.14 for a while. I installed it and so far there has been no problem with my HD7970. I used dual-head for 2 days for my normal use (emacs, latex, pdf) and I even played Portal 2 (on wine, of course) for a while. It worked very well. But still, it is a beta package and should be used with caution.
