I am wanting to install and try Plexhometheatre but it wants me to uninstall my xbmc install. Is there anyway to have both installed?

Plex is a fork of xbmc so as far as your system is concerned they are providing some of the same files and cannot coexist.

So how is it that they can co exist on other distributions, ie Ubuntu?

I don't know without digging... perhaps the ubuntu packages go though some gymnastics with regard to the file each provides. I based my statement on:
1) The link I posted states that it is a fork.
2) The packager defined the conflict.
Perhaps someone else with more knowledge about the projects will comment. You can also post in the AUR or directly to the maintainer of the plex package. Welcome to Arch BTW!

Haha thanks..Ive actually been using Arch for a few years. Im too stubborn to leave remove xbmc as it is a version I dont want to lose and dont want to go thru the process of getting back should I not like Plex. I would of chosen to comment in the AUR package but if you read the comments something funky is going on. Thanks for your assistance and not going "dont you know how to search"
