Query -aur updates

I don't know if this is the right section but quick question...

I am trying to add a query function to my conky.

Is

yaourt -Qu --aur

an acceptible command to search for updates to both the official and aur repos?

If I am not mistaken, yaourt is a wrapper around pacman, so besides the obvious "--aur" part, aren't the flags the same for pacman as they are for yaourt?

If this is the case... can't you just look at the man page to see that this might not be totally right?

Edit: By that I mean, that yes it is querying the database and will limit the output to outdated packages, but what is it comparing it to?  Its a database that still reflects the packages on your system.
