Making xscreensaver generate a picture for me

I happen to like the substrate screensaver (from xscreensaver) a lot. I wonder, if there is a way to make it generate a 9000x9000 px image and save it, instead of running as a screensaver? Thanks!

@bgc1954 thanks, it is a good start. However, there is one big problem with this approach. Namely, my screen resolution is way too small.

I have found a site http://www.pygame.org/project-substrate-1488-.html, where this screensaver has been ported to python with exactly the functionality I would like to have. Unfortunately, the download links are dead and there does not seem to be a backup anywhere else..
