[SOLVED]Half-Life 2 couldn't run. Showed "source" screen then crashed.

Okay, suddenly I really got the urge to play this game again (I never managed to finish the game actually).
The appdb page it supposed to run flawlessly with wine. But so far, I couldn't play the game at all.

At first, I realized that I didn't have lib32-mpg123 package installed. After installing the package, the game start screen showed, but it a little off screen. Wrong resolution. So I changed the resolution to native 1366x768. As the result, the game became unplayable. Only showed the "Source" screen then crashed.

I tried to find a solution but no luck so far (well, it's almost 9 years old after all).
I got Dota 2 and Torchlight 2 installed. Both run almost flawlessly.

Here the wine log

How about I give some of it for anyone who can solve my problem?

I don't want a Dota 2 key, but how about you tell us about your video card. Which one are you using, which driver?

Oh yeah I forgot.
I use Lenovo laptop which has NVIDIA 512MB 310M with the latest driver ver.313.26 from the official repo.

I'm not really familiar with Nvidia, so someone else has to help you, but does your laptop use optimus? If so, that might be your problem.

Re: [SOLVED]Half-Life 2 couldn't run. Showed "source" screen then crashed.

I googled the error messages from your log. I suggest you do the same. wink

The first entry in the "Workarounds" section of this page on the Wine website is linked in a few forum discussions with people with the same fixme debug output you get, so hopefully will solve the problem. Especially disabling the in-game community.

EDIT: ChemBro raises an interesting point, though I do know a few people using Arch who can get hl2.exe-based games working with optimus.

I didn't write, it is not possible, only that it is a problem.

Re: [SOLVED]Half-Life 2 couldn't run. Showed "source" screen then crashed.

Ha, I solved it. The only thing I needed to do was adding "-gl" in the launch options setting.
Didn't know it will be that easy.
BTW, thanks to you guys. smile

Well, half life 2 should get ported to Steam for linux pretty soon I assume. Today a old valve game called ricochet was released on linux.

L4D and L4D2 will be ported for sure, I don't know about the dates, but L4D2 was the first game that valve tested on linux.
