Announcement re hwdetect etc

Could we have an official Announcement about the new initscripts, hwdetect, and related topics? Some users are not aware of the implications - here, for example.

It would be worth mentioning in News on www.archlinux.org too - the current latest only refers to it being in testing.

Re: Announcement re hwdetect etc

Should the blacklist in rc.conf support "commenting out" modules with the ! character, like all the other lists?

Re: Announcement re hwdetect etc

Yes, but what if I wanted to enter modules like this:
MOD_BLACKLIST=(pcspkr snd_emu10k1 !snd_via82xx)

Currently, I don't think it'll allow you to "comment" out modules like !snd_via82xx, so they don't get blacklisted but they're in the list all the same, just like the regular MODULES=() or DAEMONS=() arrays

Re: Announcement re hwdetect etc

?!?
If you want the module loaded, don't!! add it to blacklist, so simple it is.
Why do you want it with ! i don'T understand the reason for it, sorry explain it a bit better, thanks

EDIT: this blacklist is only for hwdetect on startup not for more.

Re: Announcement re hwdetect etc

*sighs*  Nevermind.  I just figured it'd be a good idea to have all arrays in rc.conf behaving the same way - people may want to "comment" blacklists for the same reasons they'd comment modules or daemons -- both achieving the exact same effect as removing them entirely.
