[SOLVED] Build a clean installation

Hi all
Today I've wanted to reinstall Arch for a no reason, just for fun!
But I want to do something new...
Is it better to install Wayland and Weston and its dependent tools instead of Xorg...? I mean it isn't harmful, is it?
I have an NVIDIA OPTIMUS laptop and I want to run Bumblebee and I can't find if Bumblebee run with Wayland. How is it with Intel (Intel 4000 GPU)?
Thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Build a clean installation

If you read true arch's wayland wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wayland and go true links you will have an idea of what you need to make it work and its current limitations.

    (REMEMBER)

Wayland is under heavy development. Support can not be guaranteed and it may not function as you expect

I do. But wiki was not changed for a long time. A new version of KDE and Gnome was released and then what I see... Nothing...

What do you mean? There is nothing missing in the KDE wiki article, that would be relevant to KDE 4.10 SC exclusively. Wayland support, however, is still not finished for kwin and I believe it is not in the stable Qt4 branch either, so you might want to wait for KDE to move to Qt5 before going with wayland. Cannot tell you anything about Gnome, though.

Yeah, I think you are right...
I found nothing about new Gnome (3.8) in Wayland wiki and that was my answer to "s1ln7m4s7r"
I just tired about Xorg and its dependent tools. It's like a big sack or something... you know messy...
And another question
I heard about Mir display manager for Ubuntu...
You guys think if it moves to Arch?
Who knows that?!

Re: [SOLVED] Build a clean installation

Just a quick note about bumblebee: It won't work with a pure wayland setup.
And on Mir: it is already in AUR. But don't get your hopes too high big_smile

Re: [SOLVED] Build a clean installation

What i can advise is, if you have an external drive (recommended if you want to fully test your hardware specs) or virtualbox installed, you can reserve some space and install arch on it so you can test wayland. And then when you're sure that it can work as you want it to, then you can risk install it as your main OS, or not!

That's a good idea.
It's better to do it as this way...
