I installed Arch on a Toshiba A135-S2276. I followed the beginner's guide to configuring ALSA, and was disappointed to discover I could only hear sound when I used headphones or external speakers. I've tweaked alsa-mixer for countless hours, to no avail. And I know it's not a hardware problem, because when I boot from a Linux Mint Cinnamon Live DVD, I can hear sounds from the speakers themselves quite plainly. I'm going crazy, and I'm close to giving up on the idea of sound from the built-in speakers. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe there is a Auto-Mute bug in your Installation check it on alsamixer. Also PCM values. Did you install pulseaudio. If not give it a try.
