[SOLVED] X not working but no errors reported

Hi,

I am using a DELL Studio SPX 1330 laptop and have been using Arch for long, so I'm rather intimate with installing and using it.
But I always had problems with graphics on the DELL laptop, because of the SLI graphics cards : having a X configuration working was always the tricky part. But I always managed.

I had a working installation up to some recent nvidia update, the thing with ABI driver > 19 really was a problem and I was not the only one.
I tried revert my nvidia drivers to a previous version (and reverting at the same time nvidia-utils and the xorg package) but it did nothing, so I just waited for a new upgrade, hoping that this would solve my problem.

So here it is, the update is released, I update, I reboot.

I try launching "startx" (I haven't changed a thing from my xorg.conf.d folder), I have the usual dark screen, I have the usual nvidia start logo, then bham black screen again and back to the console "X server terminated successfully". But.. I never intented to "terminate" it.

So I rm /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I re-issue the same command, and then less /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but I can't find an error (expect the usual "nv", "nouveau" module failing to load because I use proprietary "nvidia" instead).

So here is my Xorg.0.log file (I emptied it before running the command, so the output you see is just from one "startx" command) :

Anybody has an idea what the problem might be ?

Thanks !

Please don't use file sharing sites where people are expected to download a file to view its contents; it is an exploit waiting to happen.

Use sprunge or one of the paste sites recommended in the wiki.

What's in your .xinitrc?

Ho okay, I am sorry. I will change that soon.
My. .xinitrc contains :

exec openbox-session &
sh /home/nschoe/.fehbg &

And I did not change it either

You need to read the xinitrc wiki page.

Your wm must be the last entry, and not backgrounded.

Wow thanks !

I just switched the two lines and it worked perfectly !.

Odd that it worked before, though.

Thanks for your help and quick answer times
