Securely Detaching and Powering Off USB Hard Disk

I would like to detach my usb hard disk securely. With udisks 1 I could right click on the drive in nautilus and had the option to detach it. Then it spinned down and powerd off, so I could detach it. Now with udisks 2 the option is gone.

I can power it off in gnome-disks but then it turns on instantly. This also happens, if I type udisk --detach /dev/sdc. It powers down and immediately powers up.
Any ideas, how this can be solved? The only way seems to be to power off the Notebook each time I want to detach the hard drive.

Thanks

Did you try ejecting the device? eq. eject /dev/sdc

I tried it but eject only unmounts it.  It does not power off the drive. The problem is that even when it is powered off it turns on again.

What works now is to unmount it and then execute powerdown.

Being a while since I looked into this, but here's what I had found: http://jjacky.com/2011-11-21-pmount-and … sb-device/
There might be info/links of use to you there.

Re: Securely Detaching and Powering Off USB Hard Disk

I installed pumount from the aur and it does not work right of the box because the disc is not mounted in /media. However I would like to have back my option in Nautilus to detach the disc and to be integrated in the UI. Or at least when I click suspend in the Gnome Disk Manager not to be repowered instantly.
