Macbook install problems

Hi,

I am new to arch, but have successfully installed it numerous times on my Thinkpad. I wish to install it alongside OSX on my macbook 4,1. The laptop has no optical drive (broken), but I have been booting from USB without any problems. I have partitioned the HDD and installed all kinds of other distros (mint 14, ubuntu 12.10, 10.10), which all work, except they do not allow for either ethernet or wifi connection, so while booted in any Linux distro, I am connection-less. When I try to boot arch from a live USB drive (using rEFIt), I encounter a problem immediately with GRUB. The output exactly:

GNU GRUB version 1.99~rcl
Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions.

grub>

I have been unable to solve this issue and/or figure out the connectivity issues concerning wifi/ethernet (which work fine when booted into OSX)

Please help!

Re: Macbook install problems

Explain exactly or link me to the instructions you used to make your USB drive.

Re: Macbook install problems

I had to convert the official ISO before it would boot happily as a USB on my used Air I've just got, I followed the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UE … B_from_ISO including the suggestion below to use rEFInd instead of gummiboot and it worked for me.
