Soundcard dies after ~10 minutes, Thinkpad Edge 13

Hi,
I've got a very strange issue that is not only affecting archlinux.

Some weeks ago my sound started to stutter when using google-chromes (AUR)  included Flashplayer. After a few minutes of usage (about 10) it stopped working and no other application (including speaker-test) was able to use sound either. Using the flashplayer from the repositories with midori did not cause the stuttering but also  made the sound stop working after about 10 minutes and I had to reboot. With VLC however I was able to use sound for hours without problems (and it did not die after those hours, I just closed the application) if I didn't use the browser before. Using Chromes Flash on Windows 7 did not cause stuttering but also made the sound stop working.

Yesterday VLC also started to cause sound failure after ~13 minutes.

I tried to reinitialise the sound card without rebooting by force unloading some modules (bad idea).

Does anyone know how to solve this issue?
Does anyone know a temporary solution that allows me to reinitialize the soundcard without rebooting?

Anything suspicious in dmesg?
Does aplay -Dhw:0 -fcd /dev/urandom (random noise, turn  volume down) also kill it?

I would suggest looking through log files, dmesg (as mich41 suggested), etc and posting any warnings/errors that may be related...

To be honest, since this is happening in Windows, as well - i would be surprised if this wasn't a hardware problem...

anyway, i think more info is required here.
