[solved] Dealing with too large windows

Hello,

I sometimes have to deal with application windows that are too large for my laptop screen and as a result are not fully shown. This is particularly annoying in the case the window is too large and the dialog buttons are not shown, forcing me to close the window since I do not know which button is triggered when clicking enter.

One example is Audacity. When exporting a project I do not see the confirm button at the button, nor can I make the window smaller or move it to the top due to the limitation of my screen.

So my question, how to handle too large windows on small screens?

You should probably at the very least indicate what window manager you are using.

I just use a tiling window manager (i3), so that when I start a 1080p por... movie on my 1366x768 screen I just hit $mod+f and it fits it to my screen.

Sorry, I am using Gnome 3 and yet haven't found any command to fit the screen.

this ussually has to do with resolution and the default res of the app; try a larger resolution.

Re: [solved] Dealing with too large windows

The standard X command is to hold the ALT and then click and drag from anywhere inside the window.

If GNOME STILL won't let you move the window, you may need to consider an alternative WM.

ALT did not work but the Windows key. Pressing Windows key and then clicking somewhere into the window lets me move the window even outside of my screen. Great!

I am already at maximum resolution.

Re: [solved] Dealing with too large windows

It is 1280x800. But never mind. The Windows key+drag window hint works out great.
