Firefox 1.5 has just been released. There are multiple mirrors to accomodate the huge number of downloads expected. The source tarballs can be found in the mirrors' firefox/releases/1.5/source directory.
(Just wait for IE to crash and burn...)

I decided to package it. For giggles, mostly. 8)
I'll upload soon, just gotta wait for it to compile...

I thought it was worse than the current one TBH - they just rehashed old stuff and made it worse and didn't add anything useful that was new

If you have already compiled RC3 before (like I did) then don't bother- the final is byte identical, both under Linux and Windows.
I don't agree with Dibble- the all-new Gecko engine (ain't that some change?) is way faster than the one on 1.0.X, and some tab features (like forced single window) come now right out of the box without the need of javascript-screwey extensions.

Is there some release info somewhere to be found?

I noticed a 3-4 X speed increase - not only in rendering, but also in startup. The Fasterfox counter proves it too.

Pah! Render speed is limited by bandwidth anway...tho startup speed is a plus.
Anyway, aside from all that, new extension engine, all old ones broken, cons out weigh the pros, I will not be moved on this
/me puts fingers in ears
la lala lalala *I can't hear you* lala...

All my extensions work perfect, except session saver, but that one is updated on their homepage.

Just don't install Flash.
(Or use Adblock and Filterset.G Updater, that can kill Flash-based ads.)

And now it's in [testing].........

For Flashblock, I installed this: Nightly Tester Tools
The latest version allows you to install extensions that firefox believes are incompatible.

Firefox is already at v3.0 - v3.1 is not too far from its release date, so I doubt you'll find the v1.5-package in an official repo... Maybe in AUR.
If you want a lightweight browser, try midori. No Flash support, but it is light ad fast...
Zl.
