gtk2 apps lost config parameters

From a few days gtk2 apps lost configs and they run with default config parameters. I can see strange data in config files like

"download-dir": "/home/pushakk/^W^A",

in transmission config. Other apps like deadbeef lost size config so each time I run it appear on default size.

Transmission and DeaDBeeF are GTK3 applications (unless you installed a special version from the AUR).

I saw similar behaviour. I think the problem is you are using a GTK3 theme that is incompatible with the recent GTK 3.8 release (a few days ago).

Re: gtk2 apps lost config parameters

No problems in my GTK2 apps here (Thunar, clawsmail, pavucontrol, firefox, et al). Are you sure they're gtk2 apps?

Like drcouzelis said, there was a gtk3 update recently which probably broke all your gtk3 themes and may cause unexpected behaviour. That shouldn't cause config file corruption though (AFAIK).

Re: gtk2 apps lost config parameters

The window sizing issue is one I've definitely seen, but it only effects GTK3 apps: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=162076 the issue effects everyone and isn't gtk theme specific or anything, its a GTK regression. No idea about the config file issue.

I have the same problem with Transmission. Each time I boot my computer since Gnome 3.8 upgrade, Transmission load a default settings file in ~/.config/transmission/ which erase the previous one.

mm, I was completly wrong, sorry. Anyway, I use default adwaita theme. However, It only happend from some days ago and not from the first time gnome shell was upgraded to 3.8. I guess some package upgraded after the release is broken but I don't know wich.

Re: gtk2 apps lost config parameters

That's OK. smile For your information, my "solution" was to install the GTK2 version of DeaDBeeF (AUR package "deadbeef-gtk2") and the Qt package for Transmission ("transmission-qt"). wink

jajaja, a pleasure to have been useful in some way.
