GNOME 3.8 - Extensions

Alright, I was able to get GDM to start thanks to the SNA trick pointed out in another thread, however GNOME seems to think it can override my preferences set from 3.6 hmm

I've got two issues with the new shell:

1) I want a $%^&ing window list in the top panel! I installed gnome-shell-extensions, and tried the official Window List extension, however that adds a second panel at the bottom. Like 99.99% of the world, I have a widescreen monitor, so vertical pixels are more valuable than horizontal pixels. I tried to enable the Window List by siefkenj, but even though GNOME asks if I want to install this extension, it doesn't get enabled. I can click 'on', and then as soon as I refresh (browser or shell) it clicks back to 'off'. Has anyone been able to get the official window list, or any other extension, to successfully integrate with the top panel?

2) I like the new Application Menu extension. However, it does not disable the top left hot corner behavior in the shell. I've tried editing layout.js, but it is still active even after restarting the shell and even rebooting. Does anyone have a solution?

Re: GNOME 3.8 - Extensions

For 1: the window list extension bundled with gnome-shell-extensions is supposed to add a bar at the bottom, that's why it is called a "Gnome classic" session. I think you cannot install Window List by siefkenj because it hasn't been updated for Gnome 3.8. Search for it disabling the compatibility filter (like this). I personally prefer switching windows in overview mode or with keyboard shortcuts, but there's always the option of downloading the extension directly from its Github page, copying files to ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ and then editing metadata.json as stated in the wiki. This last step may or may not work.

For 2: There are many extensions at gnome.extensions.org covering this need; have you tried them? Look for "hot corner" or something.

1. siefkenj's window list extension runs fine with 3.8. As stated by isacdaavid you just need to add 3.8 to the metadata.json of the extension.

Re: GNOME 3.8 - Extensions

Has anybody found an extension that works with gnome 3.8 to disable the (upper left) hot corner? I've tried a few that I found on github, but editing the metadata.json file did not suffice to get them working (I get an "error loading extension" in the gnome tweak tool and cannot enable them).

Re: GNOME 3.8 - Extensions

Thanks, that works! Is this only a temporary fix or do the changes to "/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/layout.js" stay when gnome gets updated in the future?

Re: GNOME 3.8 - Extensions

Not sure. I commented out the line to disable the message/notification tray appearing on hovering when I had 3.6. Upgrading to 3.8 didn't affect anything in that regard.
