pcmcia silently dead

Does anyone else have general problems with pcmcia? Particularly after the changes introduced in kernel 2.6.13?

I have a 6-in-1 card reader but nothing happens when I insert a card. I get absolutey no messages logged anywhere whatsoever... I've been going through various documents, but none have helped.

However, the yenta module and other pcmcia stuff are loaded automatically by hwdetect:

[root@nightfrost ~]# dmesg | grep -i pcmc
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge I/O window: 0x3000 - 0x3fff
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0xd0200000 - 0xd02fffff
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0x30000000 - 0x33ffffff
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge I/O window: 0x3000 - 0x3fff
pcmcia: parent PCI bridge Memory window: 0xd0200000 - 0xd02fffff

Any ideas?
