I have not been around awhile because I haven't needed to be!! Always a good thing!
I just spent several days beating my head trying to get my CDRW to work again. Don't know when it quit. Anyway, I see many posts that have the same sort of issues in the last few months, mainly "no media" whenever you try to mount a cd data disk or try to burn one.
If you are like me and have an Arch system installed for awhile, pacman -Syu will sneek up on you occationally. The answer turned out to be starting the daemons dbus and hal. They were not an issue before. I really don't ever remember seeing them on my system. CDRW works just fine now.
