[SOLVED] KDE - Wired Ethernet - Not connected

Hi,

I have trouble to activate wired ethernet in KDE. Wirless is fine. Before wire connection worked fine until I installed KDE. I checked that when I switch off wirless and back to console to:
# sudo systemctl enable dhcpcd@<interface>.service
# sudo systemctl start dhcpcd@<interface>.service

it's working.

Someone can help me please?
Thank you,
Sławek

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Wired Ethernet - Not connected

systemctl status dhcpcd --- can give you (and to us) more info
Also, I think you only need "sudo systemctl start dhcpcd"
Though I would recommend the package "NetworkManager", that can "manage" any connection you have, also there is a pretty widget for kde to manage connections.

Don't forget to mark as [SOLVED].

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Wired Ethernet - Not connected

You shouldn't have to run anything else than

sudo systemctl enable dhcpcd.service

for the ethernet to be picked up at boot.

Thank you for replay. OK so I did it sudo systemctl start dhcpcd and.... now I lost also my wifi over dhcp, wire and wlan dead now.

When I did it:

systemctl disable dhcpcd

I'm able to get dhcp over wifi but still not over wire.

More interesting:

I can connect wire when I set up manulay ip address. But this is temporary solution. I'm using laptop and need ip from dhcp. Before I use Debian wheezy KDE where dhcp on wire worked without any issues. Also I did test on Chakra Linux Arch distro with kde-plasma-networkmanagement and everything working fine!
The problem begining after installation kde-plasma-networkmanagement, before wire over dhcp worked fine. Also I tried on different model laptop - the same issue!

Issue doesn't exist when I using wicd-kde 0.3.1-3.
I really approciate your help.

Sławek

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Wired Ethernet - Not connected

Ok, you can now forget the dhcpcd.
To display info for us, use: systemctl status NetworkManager
Also, please refer to the wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NetworkManager
It's a bit weird that by installing KDE your wired connection does not work properly...
Go into KDE, add the network manager applet somewhere (though it might be next to the notification area already), and edit the connections. (also, select wired, and disable wireless, to make sure you use the correct one)

Yes I think that I know where is bug... not sure for 100% but probably netctl talk wrong with NetwokManager.
F.e. in Chakra (Arch based) is still netcfg and everything works fine out of box!

Re: [SOLVED] KDE - Wired Ethernet - Not connected

OK finally resolved issue. This is what I did it:

to run NetworkManager:

systemctl stop netctl
systemctl stop dhcpcd
systemctl stop dhcpcd.service
systemctl stop dhcpcd@enp0s25

systemctl disable netctl
systemctl disable dhcpcd
systemctl disable dhcpcd.service
systemctl disable dhcpcd@enp0s25

systemctl restart NetworkManager

Thank you very much for all your help.
