Arch 3D Wallpaper

I made this wallpaper last night with Blender's Cycles rendering engine at 3000 samples. If you would like a higher resolution, I can give you the .blend file so that you can render it, but 1920x1200 should cover most people's needs.

Edit: Okay changed it to a link.

No. Come on Bibo, it was right there in your view when you posted this.

Anyway, nice wallpaper. A little too 90s/Linux Mint for me though.

Then what's rather 2010's in your book?

Excellent question. Perhaps I should explain myself, I say '90s' because of the extruded logo and 3D text, I'm reminded of the 90s when raytracing programs were gaining popularity and Joe Bloggs and his dog were experimenting with programs like POV-Ray. To each their own.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Ray tracing back then was nowhere near what is nowadays in terms of accuracy. For one thing, this image took about 6 hours on a quad core i7 to render. The CPUs back in the 90s would take an exorbitant amount of time to render something like this.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

It's probably down to shadow and lighting effects that you've enabled that've extended the render time, I'd wager that you could generate the very same/similar image at a fraction of the time if you dialled things back. 6 hours seems far too long. Also possibly face count may be a factor, the models could be optimised to reduce your render time.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Well it's actually because of the resolution of my render (1920x1200), the amount of samples I used with Cycles (3000 is a lot, but 3000-5000 is recommended for large still renders), and the shaders I used.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Not here to talk your work down, but 6 hours for this? I think I might have seen a real-time 3D animation that looked more impressive :-D

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

I don't know why you're getting a dead link. It's still in my dropbox, and that's the right public link.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Try abload.de, they allow pretty big files and they are almost unknown to the international public. Or were, until today.

I figured I might as well, this thread is as good a place as any for this

MOD EDIT: Welcome to the forums. As mentioned, please ensure you only post thumbnails as per the forum rules (see my sig) for the benefit of those on slow connections and/or small screens.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Welcome to the forums Mattman.  It's a good idea to read any posted forum ettiquette when you are new to a forum.  It's particularly odd when you have just made the same mistake as the thread's OP who pointed to the relevant rules in the second post.

In short: nice wallpaper, but please resize it and/or move it offsite to fit forum guidelines.

Re: Arch 3D Wallpaper

Whoops, I pasted the wrong link, sorry about that. I read the rules, and made a lower resolution version, I guess I didn't get the right img tag from photobucket. Sorry again
