[Hard drive]smart error (WIP)

Hi,

Since 3 weeks, i get  regular freezes on my server, which implicate a reboot to get it back.
In the logs and dmesg, i cant find anything about an error..., i have try to downgrade the kernel... , so i think it's a physical problem, and i try them one by one :

- change of the ram, freeze still there
- desactivation of the internal graphic card, freeze still there
- test with mbprime, nothing
- test with smartctl : i get the following log on one of my 4 hard drive :

martctl -a -d ata /dev/sdb
smartctl 6.1 2013-03-16 r3800 [i686-linux-3.8.10-1-ARCH] (local build)

Could someone help me with this log. Do you think it could explain the freeze of my server, or that it's something else which causes it.

Thanks in advance,

Re: [Hard drive]smart error (WIP)

Your HDD's error log and self-test results show that you have some bad sector. This may be the reason, and even if it isn't, you should probably do something about it.

You can try to fix them one by one: http://www.vanderzee.org/bad_blocks_howto
or just backup all files which are still readable (be prepared for some errors) and dd the whole drive to reallocate all bad blocks at once.

If it turns out that there were many of them (Reallocated_Sector_Ct) or the drive still fails extended self-test, replace it.
