I'm having some very strange issues with transmission gtk client. It refuses to save the downloaded files to specified folder. Instead it downloads the files to a subfolder of the specified folder. For example if I choose the Downloads folder as a download location it won't save the files in it but to some folder which previously existed in the Downloads folder. I've already tried reinstalling transmission and deleting transmission config folders. Suggestions?

For what it's worth--not at all sure if this will work with gtk--with transmission-cli I had a similar issue--it was ignoring all of my custom configuration options.
I think that both the Arch wiki and other guides said the settings should be in ~/.config/transmission-daemon (My memory is hazy now, so that might be wrong, but regardless, transmission wasn't doing what was expected, at least from what I gleaned from reading)
So, I ran it with strace--that is,
strace transmission-cli whatever
It turned out that it was looking to ~/.config/transmission/settings.json (am I the only one who reads that as Jason, or is it just because I used to work with a developer by that name?).
I don't know if that will help with your gui issue--but if you have a ~/.config/transmission/directory, it might be worth a shot. (Not sure how strace would work with the gui either, but it might show you where your transmission client is looking for config options).

Thanks for the suggestion scottro. I ran transmission-gtk with strace but couldn't find anything weird regarding configuration, although I maybe missed something due to large amount of noise in the output. I checked the configuration in the .config/transmission folder and everything seems to be in order. The folder to which transmission always downloads is listen in configuration under the recent download folders list. I've deleted this but the problem is still here, only now it chooses the folder from the last downloaded torrent.

Ok, sorry it wasn't any use. Not being familiar with the gtk one, not sure why it's ignoring config options then, but hopefully, someone will see this and give the answer.

Do you have "download-dir": in your .config/transmission/settings.json? And you are not running transmission-daemon, which has its own settings file in its own directory? Are the permissions correct?
If it's not working I can recommend transmission-remote-gtk-git from AUR which can be used on 127.0.0.1 as well. But that of course, requires the deamon.

@swanson As I've already stated before, the entries in settings.json are all correct. I don't have the transmission-daemon and the permissions are not the issue since the problem remains even is I delete the whole .config/transmission folder

Do you have any of those issues?
- Some settings (amount of slots, speed limits) are lost / set back to default on restart of transmission-gtk
- The "safe to location" keeps changing back to "none" or sometimes to weird values like "~/user/user/" or "~/[combination of random invalid uniocode charaters]" or even random word that (to a non-programmer like me ) look like they could only come from random string/memory regions of transmission itsself: "~/alt-speed-enabled/"

I have both these issues. Looks like I'll be moving to another client for the time being.

Hi,
I have those issues too. It appeared after a system update (though transmission was not updated). After the same update, I noticed another problem: when I try to import qfx files in GnuCash, the descriptions of the transactions are all blank. I have no idea if it is related...

GnuCash IMO does not sound very related to...:

which is fixed in transmission 2.80. I built from svn (14074) - seems to be working fine so far.
Offline
I installed the svn branch of transmission and in 14082 revision the problem with the settings.json files dissapeared.

I am not getting 2.80 to come down when I use svn, highest i get is 2.77.3?
I followed these steps:
svn checkout --depth=empty svn://svn.archlinux.org/packages
svn update transmission
cd transmission/trunk
makepkg
This builds 2.77 versions, what am I doing wrong?

I think they're talking about transmission svn, not Arch svn.
Maybe https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/transmission-svn/ can help.

I checked that out, looks like it has not been updated since 2010. I wonder if they are grabbing the SVN directly from http://www.transmissionbt.com/ and not worrying about packaging it?
