Slow/Sporadic Internet Connection Speed on rtl8723ae

I am running 3.8.11-1-ARCH with the latest firmware for my Wi-Fi card, the rtl8723ae, and even though I am sat next to my Router, my connection speed is only 18Mb/s, other devices (Laptops/Phones) connect at the full 54Mb/s.

The connection also seems to drop sporadically.

The latest firmware from the AUR is out-of-date as the newest kernel orphans the file.

Any ideas?
