Hang on boot

Just installed according (at least I think) to the beginner guide.

Installed grub, gnome, and gdm. (as root)

rebooted, hangs after the fsck bit where it says something like /dev/sda4: clean, 112977/9296096 files, 185427/21217024 blocks
I just get the blinking cursor. I left it there long enough to take a nap and nothing else came up.
I had previously rebooted (before installing xorg-server stuff + ati open source driver + gnome + gdm) and it worked fine.

Doesn't seem to be anyone else that has had this exact problem.

Anything I can try other than nuke an re-install?

Is there an easy way to use the installation media to edit config files and stuff? As of now, I have no way to post any of that.

Re: Hang on boot

Well, booting into my installation media, chroot'ing to the disk installation and removing gdm now has me able to boot completely into the system. Once I have my system a bit more set up, I'll try to get gdm working and see if anything nasty happens again.

Re: Hang on boot

Perhaps, but I wasn't getting nearly that far in the boot process.

Re: Hang on boot

remove the "quiet" option from the boot parameters (grub.cfg) to see more output
try using other than GDM, I recommend LXDM
good luck
