Nvidia terminal resolution - GRUB_GFXMODE not an option

Hi again,

I would like to get my terminal to display in 1920x1080 with Nvidia proprietary drivers as it does with nouveau.
The problem here is my Zotac GTX 560Ti, does not offer this as an option via VBE.
So the solution presented here (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NV … Resolution) is not an option.
I really don't care what resoution GRUB itself displays at.

I found a possible solution at the bottom of this page: http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … dia-driver
It suggests appending vga=0xXXXX to the kernel command line but I believe that the last 4 X's are meant to be numbers representing the desired resolution.  I dug around and found this: http://www.gregfolkert.net/info/vesa-display-codes.html but 1920x1080 is not on this list. (They're all 4:3 resolutions)

Thanks guys!
H

EDIT: I am using 313.30-5 from extra.

Re: Nvidia terminal resolution - GRUB_GFXMODE not an option

For anyone that is interested, this is related to KMS (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … de_Setting).  It sounds like Nvidia proprietary is lacking fbdev (whatever this is).  Im wondering if there is a way to "convince" my graphics card to allow 1920x1080 via VBE.  Maybe my TV EDID is not reporting correctly and causing my graphics card to in turn not allow this resolution.
To be continued....

Program the resolution into the VBIOS of the card. Of course that's easier said than done. A tool would need to be written to do this. But no one ever wrote such a tool. Because quite honestly, it's not worth the time. If you care about the console so much, use nouveau. Otherwise simply live with a low-res console.
