Multimedia Keys in Cinnamon

After gnome went to 3.8 my play, next, prev etc buttons do not work in banshee or rhythmbox. the volume buttons work fine. I guess banshee and rhythmbox are looking for the default gnome multimedia keys. I read somewhere that they used to be controlled by gnome-settings-daemon but now are controlled by gnome-shell which is not running when cinnamon is. I have confirmed that the buttons work when logged in to gnome. is there any way to get these working in cinnamon?

I needed to enable the DBus plugin for Banshee. See if that helps.
