Slow and Stuck notebook

Hi, I've installed arch on my old toshiba satellite. Everything seems ok but in the last week, the notebook starts to show some problems after the boot: the mouse pointer moves too slow, the computer is pratically unusable and one or two times it freezes and I have to reboot the system. What can I check? Where I've to look?

Any suggestion?

My kernel is 3.8.11-1, 64bit

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU     P8700  @ 2.53GHz

RAM: 4GB

When the mouse pointer is slow, system memory is almost free... System is not swapping!

Re: Slow and Stuck notebook

You can start with e.g. htop. What is the cpu usage? Can you type fast or is all input slow?

Re: Slow and Stuck notebook

What DE or WM are you using?

Do you use compositing?

What graphics chipset and driver do you have?

Re: Slow and Stuck notebook

Check the temperatures (lm_sensors), remove any dust, check the RAM with memtest86+.

Re: Slow and Stuck notebook

Sorry for my late reply, but I was so busy at work...

With htop cpu and ram usage are normal, sensors report a good cpu temperature...

I'm using kde4 with desktop effects enabled, the vga is an integrated by intel. I can type normally, only the cursor and switch from a window to another are so slow...
