[SOLVED]NVIDIA hardware acceleration isn't working well

Video playback in vlc lags (Compared with Windows or Ubuntu)
(VLC > Tools > preferences > input & codec settings > use GPU accelerated decoding is enabled)
whenever I play a video in VLC, the output quality isn't good, CPU is at full speed whereas GPU is Idle.

these are the packages I've installed so far:

$ pacman -Qqs nvidia
lib32-nvidia-libgl
lib32-nvidia-utils
libvdpau
nvidia
nvidia-libgl
nvidia-utils
$ pacman -Qqs libva
libva
libva-vdpau-driver

and the command vainfo:

$ vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 0.33.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns 0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/dri/nvidia_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_0_33
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0
vainfo: VA-API version: 0.33 (libva 1.1.1)
vainfo: Driver version: Splitted-Desktop Systems VDPAU backend for VA-API - 0.7.4
vainfo: Supported profile and entrypoints
      VAProfileMPEG2Simple            :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileMPEG2Main              :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileMPEG4Simple            :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileMPEG4AdvancedSimple    :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileH264Main               :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileH264High               :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileVC1Simple              :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileVC1Main                :	VAEntrypointVLD
      VAProfileVC1Advanced            :	VAEntrypointVLD

did I miss anything to make it work?
thanks.

Re: [SOLVED]NVIDIA hardware acceleration isn't working well

Does vlc auto detect vdpau or is there a setting in the GUI to use it?  Try it with mplayer making sure your ~/.mplayer/config contains:

vo=vdpau
vc=ffh264vdpau,ffodivxvdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,

CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck  • AUR packagesZsh and other configs

with mplayer package, the video plays and lags;
with mplayer-vaapi package, the video doesn't play.

Re: [SOLVED]NVIDIA hardware acceleration isn't working well

two little tips:

if use nvidia no need mplayer-vaapi

mplayer-vaapi<libva<libva-vdpau-driver<vdpau<GPU
mplayer/2<vdpau<GPU

and the info of vdpau now show in nvidia-settings (+319.17)

Re: [SOLVED]NVIDIA hardware acceleration isn't working well

finally managed to make mplayer use the GPU instead of CPU
but the output is still glitchy (edit: called Tearing)

Re: [SOLVED]NVIDIA hardware acceleration isn't working well

I have a tiny lag, but no 'glitches' (tearing)
Intel HD3000, mplayer-vaapi, compton started like that:

compton -c -C -r 6 -l -8 -t -8 -m 0.9 -G --backend glx --paint-on-overlay --glx-no-stencil --vsync opengl-swc -b

Everything before --backend is only aesthetics, the rest is result of trial & error, following suggestions from this thread.
