[SOLVED]Multimedia keys stopped working after upgrading kernel

Hello,

Today my multimedia keys stopped working after I upgraded my linux kernel to version 3.9.2. I checked both xev and dmesg if something related falls as log, but not a chance.

I also checked my keyboard settings, shortcuts seem to be set correctly (I didn't change any settings related recently, but checked just to be sure).

I am using an ASUS n56vz notebook with a GNOME 3.8.2 desktop environment.

Is there anybody else encountering this issue or a solution/workaround for this?

Hi,

I have the similar issue. Everything worked fine until this same kernel upgrade. But you are the first one I've seen having the same issue. I didn't find any solution so far.

Asus n56vz with Gnome 3.8.2 here as well and I have the same issue.
What I noticed is that removing acpi_osi="!Windows 2012" from the kernel boot parameters, which I need for the screen backlight keys, brings back some of the FN keys, like volume keys(f10-f12) and f7 which turns off the screen.

Same thing for me with an Asus UX31A, but not sure with what upgrade exactly

I don't think downgrading kernel to an old version is neither a solution nor a workaround. I am going to wait for a proper solution to this issue.

You can add asus-nb-wmi to modules list in mkinitcpio.conf and run "mkinitcpio -p linux" as root. At least it helped me on ASUS K73SV. Got this from here: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/35320

Thx, this worked great on my asus n56vz. Even the led for wifi is working correctly now.
