Awesome WM colored Tags

Hi I've been using awesomewm for quite a while now and am fairly familiar with it. One thing that I have been trying to figure out is if one can change the colors of a particular tag. The settings for the hex color values in the the config will change the color of the entire tag. I am trying to change the colors of characters within the tag(I have numbers in my tag that having the color changed would help with navigating between workspaces).

Here is a mockup of what I am trying to accomplish(top being current, and bottom being the goal). Thanks in advance
