Problem Upgrading an old Arch Linux: filesystem AND glibc

Hello,

i have serious problems upgrading my Arch Linux box. I've been using a vServer which _only_ supplies an pretty old Arch Linux image.

Whatever i try,

My problems are:
- I cannot upgrade pacman from 4.0.3-1 to 4.1.1-1
- I cannot install filesystem 2013.03-2
- I cannot upgrade glibc from 2.16.0-1 to 2.17-5

pacman has filesystem and glibc as a dependency.
glibc has filesystem as a dependency.

When i try to install filesystem:

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

If i try to --force the installation of filesystem, the whole system will break super hard

Things i tried without success:

If reinstalling is not an option, upgrade incrementally using the ARM, following the order in the news.

If reinstalling is not an option, upgrade incrementally using the ARM, following the order in the news.

^^^ This is what I was going to suggest as well.  Just keep in mind that unlike the normal mirrors, the Arch Rollback Machine is a single server.  So it is best not to think of this as something you can use and abuse at will.

after reading a pile of bbs post's I would suggest keeping the config's /etc /home & any other important location & just bit the bullet & re-install

You didn't read the post carefully enough.  This is not an option for the OP, as this is Arch hosted on a vserver and the image is provided to him (and is apparently old).
