Cinnamon broken after gnome 3.8 update

Hi all, I can't start a cinnamon session since last month updates. I get the "Oh no! something has gone wrong" message everytime. I have allready tried removing/reinstalling gnome and cinnamon with no luck. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Thanks!

Felipe

What does a quick search of the forum boards tell you?

It is not clear to me, that is why I started this topic. Do you have a problem with that mariusmeyer? What a crybaby!

I don't think this question is stupid, because I spent more than an hour reading the forum boards, and the more I read more confused I felt. I've been using linux since the 90s, so this kind of stuff is NOT new to me.

A polite answer would be nice.

Re: Cinnamon broken after gnome 3.8 update

Okay, I think we need to start over here.

First off, wl_fela, In all sincerity, welcome to the Arch Linux community.  The Arch community does have its quirks, one of which is that we insist that people take the initiative to do their own research.  You assert that you did, fair enough.  Your first post could have been much stronger if you made that assertion up front, and told us what threads you had looked at.  You could also tell us what processor you are running, whether your installation is 32 or 64 bit, what you video chipset is, laptop or desktop, kernel, xorg and cinnamon versions, anything in your journal or other logs, etc...

mariusmeyer called you on it.  If it was not he, it would have been one of a hundred other members that did.  Your response was inappropriate and unproductive.  Please read our forum rules on how to post, help vampirism, and respecting other members.  I also suggest you read the article linked in my signature.

Now, back on topic....

Re: Cinnamon broken after gnome 3.8 update

Thank you for your comments ewaller, I'll keep that in mind. Anyway, I think you are excusing mariusmeyer when he is not really paying attention to my question, he is not being helpful at al and he is being rude to me. The same with the text on your signature, it just encourages that kind of behaviour, as if the people who answer on the forums had a perfect way to judge others and detect who is a loser and who is not.
Do I have to prove I'm not stupid or a "luser" everytime I write a post? Did you notice that I wrote a simple question, which was "Is anyone else experiencing this problem?"? I was just expecting a simple answer, not full technical support. If I were to make a full analysis of the issue, I wouldn't use the forum in the first place. So I started with a simple question, to check if I was on the right track, to clearly state that there might be a problem with some software package.

I'm sorry mariusmeyer, I did not mean to offend you. Here is my answer:
A quick search on the forums tells me that there have been many problems with this gnome update, that cinnamon developers are not going to follow gnome development, and that there are some people that had problems with cinnamon while others claim that they had cinnamon running at the  same time. I will continue to investigate on my own when I have time, but I am not entirely sure if cinnamon is broken, so any info on the status of this conflict would be appreciated.

I'm running x64 arch with all packages up to date.

Best regards,

Do you see why I asked? smile the answer to your question is obviously "yes", and you have found that out by searching. Of course, my first post could have been the one word "yes" and only that: but what info would you have gotten from that, other than what your quote shows that you have found out yourself? I fully understand why you got the impression that I was being rude, so I apologize. But if you read my post again, notice that I am just asking what you already know about the topic. I made no reference to how long you have been using Linux for (which is longer than I have been using it) and I never called you or even insinuated that you are a loser or that the question was stupid (it is not).

All the best smile
