I can confirm this. usb_modeswitch apparently does not switch anymore for me :-)
Before downgrade, lsusb yields
Bus 004 Device 006: ID 19d2:2000 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM MF627/MF628/MF628+/MF636+ HSDPA/HSUPA
Afterwards I get
Bus 004 Device 009: ID 19d2:0117 ZTE WCDMA Technologies MSM
Also, the upgrade reduced the footprint of usb_modeswitch from 1.34MB to about 300kB (at least from what I see from the positive "upgrade" size of the downgrade).

I canconfirm that now take 2 or 3 reboots for make usb_modeswitch to switch
but in my case at the end... switch
Well, I suppose that this is somekind of signature, no?

This I cannot confirm, unfortunately. I have evidence against a statistical correlation between reboots with 1.2.5-2 and modeswitching :-)

I too confirm this on a ZTE 3G Dongle. Downgrading sets the problem right.

Same issue here with Huawei modem. And downgrading solves it. Package version is same. Only release changed. File a bug?

Solved with usb_modeswitch-1.2.5-3
This should be marked as SOLVED
