Update your system (using up to date servers) and try again.
Search the forums as this topic came up recently quite a few times.

Tell us what have you tried and what was the outcome - post the error messages etc.
You can first tell us how did you break your system, as you have probably updated it only partially.

i tried installing VLC it asked for a new version of QT . and i went to update that and accidentally ended with libpng15.so missing .
first my gdm was broken and followed by others .
GIMP , LIBREOFFICE , INKSCAPE all says libpng15 is missing .
i m looking around for solutions . i did uninstall firefox and installed it back in works . i switced to qt4.8 from qt5 .
how should i update all the packages .

If you have any aur packages, update them.

Read the man page and the wiki.
Partial upgrades i.e. upgrading only some packages but not all of them are not supported.

Is there a problem with updating the whole system, both the packages from the official repos and packages from the AUR, if you have any?

For anyone reading this... THAT IS NOT THE SOLUTION!
A full system upgrade will fix the issue.

i just tried installing libpng from AUR , it worked . if that wouldnt worked , i would have gone for upgrading the full system .
but i read , we have to be cautious about updating the whole system . right now i dont want to experiment it .

The only right way of installing new software is to update your whole system beforehand.

Then what in the world are you doing running Arch?!?

And what in the world are you reading?
You do have to be cautious and make sure you only update the whole system. That is the only safe use of pacman. Partial upgrades cause this sort of problem, and your duct-tape fix can only cause much worse problems as you wait longer.
