network manager

I'm trying to build 'network manager' from here http://www.gnome.org/projects/NetworkManager/, it stops at the configure step because it only seems to support the main distros (debian, slack, gentoo, mandrake etc...), i was wondering if there was a workaround for it. It also says that patches are welcomed by the developers, so it can be possible for arch to be supported.
