[SOLVED] Thinkpad x220 temperature debug

Solution: If you have a processor which uses intel_pstate governor, and you use laptop-mode tools, you might want to disable the cpufrqe plugin of the laptop-mode tools (/etc/laptop-mode/conf.d/cpufreq.conf)

CPU temp is 65 degrees celsius. Usually it is 50 degrees. Powertop is saying that there is 3.77% GPU usage, and  I googled and could not find a way to see which process uses the GPU. Closed random apps and didn't help.

Is there any way to find what process uses the GPU for intel videcard?

The system is up to date, CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70GHz.

➜ ~ uname -a
Linux andrei-thinkpad-x220 3.9.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat May 25 16:14:55 CEST 2013 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Update: Also I checked, and saw that the CPU is at 3.3 Ghz (turbo cored), but the CPU usage is 0-2%. top shows that the most cpu hungry is skype, but it only consumes 2-3% of CPU.

Re: [SOLVED] Thinkpad x220 temperature debug

@pam, as I said the top processes use very small amunts of cpu 2-3%, I used top and set it to show all processes.

I also got this on the logs:

May 29 18:47:06 andrei-thinkpad-x220 kernel: CPU3: Package power limit notification (total events = 7576)
May 29 18:47:06 andrei-thinkpad-x220 kernel: CPU0: Package power limit notification (total events = 7575)
May 29 18:47:06 andrei-thinkpad-x220 kernel: CPU1: Package power limit notification (total events = 7575)
May 29 18:47:06 andrei-thinkpad-x220 kernel: CPU2: Package power limit notification (total events = 7576)

Re: [SOLVED] Thinkpad x220 temperature debug

I edited after i re-read the post.
There is nothing in my knowledge ..... any program that can show what processes a GPU is running.

Buts hints always exist....check flash(plugin-container) of firefox.

Also check memory utilization for any hints.

Re: [SOLVED] Thinkpad x220 temperature debug

I tracked down the problem to the fact the the governor is not working properly. Looks like an issue related to intel_pstate.

Update: disabling the cpufreq plugin of laptop-mode tools fixed the problem.
